At the very heart of North Side Christian Church is the gathering of community on Sunday mornings. Here we connect with God and each other. Gathering after a long week, the people of God at North Side have a lot to share. Candles are lit as prayers are lifted in praise and concern. Children and adults alike look forward to the children’s sermon. All are welcomed to God’s Table each week as we share communion. Music, both traditional and contemporary, and amazing art all add to the richness of worship. Along the way we laugh, shed a tear now and again, and find ourselves experiencing God moments.
With the help of the worship team, Interim Pastor Portia Iverson leads worship. Having come to ministry after 17 years as a professional actress in New York City, Portia brings a unique perspective to preaching, often using illustrations from moments in the movies to remind us that God meets us wherever we are, in whatever place and time we find ourselves. We often leave feeling we have indeed had a drink in the oasis.
Come, drink with us this Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m. or join us for our contemporary "The Otherside" service Saturday nights at 5:30 p.m. Come as you are there is no dress code.
Our building is fully accessible to the handicapped.
Community Time
The gathering of community continues in Fellowship Hall following worship. This is an important time for most people. Over donuts, bagels, coffee, tea, and juice we have time to catch up with each other, meet new friends, and make plans. Sometimes this time is extended to include a potluck dinner or a catered dinner and an educational forum.
Education
There are educational opportunities for people of all ages at North Side. Children and youth classes focus on the scripture used in worship, using age-appropriate activities and discussions to help them learn about God and recognize God’s presence in their lives. Adults have two options. The Inquirer’s Class spends time discussing the sermon (although sometimes it hard to see that from where the discussion end up!). The Radical Fringe reads and discusses a variety of materials on progressive Christianity. Several times a year there are other adult classes that meet for a special topic or project.
